But some All Lives Matter critics aren't having it.
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose has pledged to donate $10k to the Montrose LGBTQ Center in Houston. Her announcement followed musician Jack Antonoff's, who told fans he'd match donations up to $10k for the same center through the Hurricane Harvey LGBTQ Disaster Relief Fund.
"The LGBTQ Disaster Relief Fund will be used to help individuals and families begin to rebuild their lives through counseling, case management, direct assistance with shelf stable food, furniture, housing and more," the fundraising site reads. "The Center's dedicated case management team is on call to help homeless youth, seniors, people living with HIV, hate crime survivors, and those devastated by the storm."
Naturally, some All Lives Matter naysayers began criticizing Rose's donation. "So you are only willing to help out gay people suffering from floods in Houston?" questioned one follower, calling her a "disgusting human being." Another labeled the queer icon a "fucking libtard," questioning her decision to focus on one group in Houston.
Rose posted the claims on her Instagram to some 11.6 million followers, saying she doesn't agree with the wording or personal attacks. "I can understand the confusion if you are not aware of what these centers do," she said, offering followers an explanation about her decision to choose the Montrose LGBTQ Center.
"The LGBT center does not help LGBT members in a crisis like this, it does not discriminate people in need based on gender, sexuality, race or religion," she wrote. "It is one of the most inclusive organizations I can think of. It is not as though they check how gay you are on entry." She highlighted how other groups haven't been as welcoming, thanking Texas' mosques for opening their doors while an unnamed 16,000-seat megachurch has kept itself closed.
