Tim Cook Uses New iPhone Hype to Advocate for Australia's Gay Marriage Battle

The Apple CEO released a statement in support of marriage equality. 

Power 50's Tim Cook had a big announcement today and no, it wasn't about the iPhone X, though we're already planning on buying it to talk exclusively through the poop emoji. The CEO of Apple and the first ever openly gay chief executive of a Fortune 500 company used his famous platform (and insane hype about new iPhones) to lend his support to Australia's ongoing battle for gay marriage.

Down under, the Aussies are beginning to send in paper ballots to vote on what could be a historic legalization of same-sex marriage in the country. To aid in the years-long battle for equality, Cook released an official statement in support of the issue:

"We support marriage equality and believe all Australians deserve the freedom to marry the person they love, and to have their relationships recognized with the same dignity and legal protections as their neighbors, friends, and family."
