Pelosi took to the floor for a classic filibuser, wearing 4-inch heels as she read on for hours the testimonies of different Dreamers who've sent their stories in to their representatives.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took to the House floor yesterday to speak for over 8 hours in defense of Dreamers, undocumented migrants who arrived in the US as children.

Pelosi's speech was prompted by Congress's new proposed spending bill which will keep the government from shutting down again--the current draft leaves out any protections for Dreamers, who are currently on uncertain footing since Trump has voiced his opposition to DACA, the legislation that protects Dreamers from deportation.

The Democratic party has already faced criticism for not forcing a vote on extending DACA, reports The Washington Post. But in order to delay voting on the new stopgap spending deal, Pelosi took to the floor for a classic filibuser, wearing 4-inch heels as she read on for hours the testimonies of different Dreamers who've sent their stories in to their representatives.

Of course, filibustering is reserved typically for the Senate, and not allowed in the House, but since Pelosi is her party leader, she's allowed to speak for as long as she likes, and so has found the loophole.

Pelosi has explained she will not vote in favor of the new spending bill without Speaker of the House Paul Ryan promising to consider protective legislation for Dreamers, though the White House and Republicans have suggested a debate on immigration reform take place after the stopgap spending deal has already passed.
