Television shakeups abound this week. After the successful ABC reboot of Roseanne was cancelled following star Roseanne Barr's racially-charged tweets about former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, now comedian Samantha Bee is in hot water after referring to Ivanka Trump as a "feckless c**t" on immigration.
"Why aren't they firing no talent Samantha Bee for the horrible language used on her low ratings show?" Donald Trump asked in a tweet. "A total double standard but that's O.K., we are Winning, and will be doing so for a long time to come!"

It's safe to assume that the "double standard" Trump refers to is the treatment of Barr compared to the Treatment of Bee, but a comparison can also be drawn to how he reacts to racism versus sexism and misogyny. It took Trump more than 24 hours to respond to the situation with Barr and, though the story dominated headlines and the show was a favorite among the conservative audience and, when he did comment, it was about him, not the shamed actress. It's also worth noting that Trump did not condemn Barr's language. With Bee's remark Trump responded in less than a day.
Admittedly a jab at his daughter hits closer to home than most things, but Trump himself has a long history of objectifying, sexist, misogynistic remarks towards women, with some even aimed at Ivanka. The Hollywood Reporter points out that the children of presidents have long been off limits when it comes to jokes, but that was to give them some semblance of a private life as they were brought along to the White House with their parents' ambitions and were usually younger. As a grown adult Ivanka has carved out a very active role for herself in this administration, endorsed her father's decisions, and even acted as a delegate to the Winter Olympics.
Bee apologized for her comments the day after the episode of Full Frontal in which they were featured aired, and TBS shared the fault saying it was "our mistake, too."
\u201cI would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.\u201d— Samantha Bee (@Samantha Bee) 1527790590
