Laith Ashley, Chris Mosier & More Challenge “Masculinity”

"You define your own masculinity. You define who you are."

Menswear brand Bonobos is shaking things up with their new campaign, #EvolveTheDefinition, which, as WWD reports, is designed to open a discussion on the definition of men and masculinity.

To kick off the campaign, the brand is airing its first national TV spot during the ESPY Awards tonight. The 90-second video features men, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, as they explore "masculinity" and what the term means to them.

"Synonyms are macho, muscular, well-built, red-blooded, strapping and strong," the men read. "None of these really sound like me," one man said in the clip. Chris Mosier also shared his message. "I think that's what gets us in trouble--is when we say there's only one way to be a man." Laith Ashley added in the video, "You define your own masculinity. You define who you are." We couldn't sum it up better ourselves.

In a statement made to WWD, copresident of Bonobos Micky Onvural, said "Masculinity has been bound by traditional stereotypes and Bonobos' mission is to strive for a more-equal world."
