Five Grindr users fell victim to the gang in one evening, and one suspect is in custody.
A gang in Oklahoma has been using Grindr to lure, kidnap, and rob unsuspecting gay men at gunpoint. One man by the name of Deaunte McPherson has been arrested in connection with the crime, charged with robbery with a firearm and kidnapping. Police are still seeking two men and a woman who are also suspects.
According to local news outlet, KFOR, men were lured to a house in a quiet residential area, via a fake profile on Grindr. Upon arriving, an armed gang robbed them at gunpoint and forced them into a dark garage.
"There was only one light in that garage and a couple of victims actually described stepping over what they thought was trash and it turned out to be several of the other live victims who were lying on the floor," Officer Megan Morgan told KFOR.
"Different credit cards, they even asked for the victim's pin numbers. They stole cell phones, keys to cars and one victim even reported that they asked for the title or deed to the car as well," Officer Morgan said.
At least five men fell victim to the gang, arriving in 15 minute increments one night. The final victim did not comply, and instead ran away. The other victims reported hearing gunshots as the gang chased after him. The distraction gave the other victims time to escape.
