Is the Kevin Hart Tweet Apology Tour incoming?
Is Kevin Hart coming to The Ellen DeGeneres Show? According to a tweet by Daily Beast writer Matt Wilstein, the comedian will be the guest on this coming Monday's episode, but why?
Why Hart? Why Ellen? Why this blog post where we talk super tensely about an upcoming guest on a thoroughly milquetoast slash generally inoffensive daytime talk show? Well, last we heard from Kevin Hart, he was stepping down from hosting the Oscars because he refused to apologize for homophobic tweets where he joked ("joked") about hurting his son if he started doing gay stuff. And, as we all know, Ellen is very gay. 'Member that "Yep, I'm Gay" cover of Time magazine? That was Ellen. Very gay. Extremely gay. Deep gay. Gay Classic(tm). The most admired gay woman in America according to Gallup. So, it's the tension, Melissa! The intrigue. The drama. Why him? Why her? Why this? Why now?
If I had to guess, I'd say that Hart is probably planning to apologize for those homophobic tweets or at least address how it all played out. If that's his plan, then there's no better place to do so than on Ellen's talk show. Or, maybe she's planning to ambush him a la Oprah v. James Frey, saving the smiles and ReLaTaBle dancing for another episode. Then again, it's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The only ambushes she's into involve clowns in an end table. Guess we'll all just have to wait and see...
OUT has reached out to representatives for Hart and DeGeneres as well as representatives for Ellen show distributor Warner Bros. Television to confirm the tweet, and will update this story if we hear back.
