Watch These Street Performers Drown Out a Homophobic Preacher

Augie Bello and Julian Roel

We love to see it.

The LGBTQ+ community and our allies will always be louder than those that hate us.

On Friday one homophobic preacher learned just that at Union Square in New York City when he attempted to give a speech that was quickly drowned out by street performers.

A filmmaker and New Yorker by the name of Nicolas Heller recorded a video of the incident and shared it on Instagram.

"This strapping young gent (who clearly gets laid regularly) is preaching that the LGBTQ community is going to burn in hell so street musicians @augie_bello and @roel.julian offer some foreground instrumentals. (Guest appearance by @arnold_daniel)"

The video begins with the sidewalk preacher yelling that LGBTQ+ people will burn in hell. Before he can continue his fire and brimstone spiel, his voice is soon drowned out by the saxophone playing buskers Augie Bello and Julian Roel followed by cheers from onlookers. Bello then begins riding a bicycle in circles around the preacher, while playing -- we love a multi-talented performer. The preacher is clearly frustrated.

Amid the slew of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric we've seen this year in additoin to the Trump administration's frequent attacks on LGBTQ+ rights such as his attempt to legalize anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination within the workplace and his reinterpretation of Title IX, which puts transgender youth at risk of increased harassment, it's refreshing to see our community and allies clapback by teaching a lesson to those who believe it is okay to spew hate.
