Karens are gonna be Karens.
Instagram user Art Kaligos (@artkaligos) shared a video this week of a group of angry white women storming out of a hotel pool area after they complained that two Black queer women were kissing where children were present. As the flock of Karens storms off, a group of men in the pool chant "Shame! Shame! Shame!" It's just like a scene out of Game of Thrones. But with pool security escorting the women out of the area instead of a weird religious group.
"This woman asked a female couple to stop kissing in a public pool because her kids were present," Kaligos captioned the video. "So we gave her the Cersei Lannister treatment while they were escorted out by security. SHAME!!"
But the Karens weren't content to walk out in silence. As the men shamed them, they released expletive-filled rants. I guess swearing and flipping people off isn't as bad for children to see as two women kissing.
"Calling someone a racist because they're white?" one woman asks the men. "How is that? That's shame."
Another asked the men if they had any children and said, "You'd be a terrible dad."
When the men keep on shaming the women, she tells them, "I'm a Jewish woman from New Jersey, you're a disgusting piece of sh*t." Then one of the men calls the Karen "suburban," and strangely, that's what really pushes her over the edge.
"Suburban? I live in Oakland you f*cking asshole!" she screams as her husband tries to usher her out of the area. "You're a loser and a fucking loser of the world," she tells the men in the pool. Finally she leaves as the men add chants of "gentrifier" to "shame."
"We were relaxing in the pool as it was super hot and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves until a group of white mothers asked a young queer woman of color to stop kissing her female friend in front of their children," Kaligos told SFGATE. "The young queer woman was visibly upset at being targeted and called out the women for being racists and homophobic, as there were many other people in the pool -- straight and white -- who were just as affectionate."
"As a white gay man, it is important for me to stand up for my queer brothers and sisters, especially those of color," he added. "We will not tolerate bigotry any longer."
Domonique Veasley, one of the women who was kissing said she was thankful for the support. "It's exhausting but I also felt very supportive from the other people at the pool," she said. "It gave me faith for the future and it showed me that it's going to take a long time, it's a long road, but it's a spark of faith."
