Chris Kilpatrick, a gay council member from California, resigned days after he and his partner were allegedly caught on video urinating on the doors of Precinct, a popular LGBTQ+ bar in Los Angeles.
On Thursday, Mar. 14, the Crescenta Valley Town Council (CVTC) announced that Kilpatrick resigned after Precinct shared a video on social media that seemingly showed him urinating in public on the exterior part of the venue.
The CVTC shared a statement via social media that read:
“Today, Councilmember Chris Kilpatrick tendered his resignation from the Crescenta Valley Town Council. This resignation was accepted effective immediately.”
The alleged urination incident took place on Saturday, Mar. 9. Kilpatrick and his partner appeared to be drinking at the Precinct bar and subsequently exited the establishment. However, the bar only shared this video footage on Tuesday, Mar. 12.
“Last Saturday night, these two party boys decided to show everyone what not to do at Precinct,” the Precinct wrote in the post. “They first left the bar with full cocktail glasses in hand, then decided to go to our employee entrance, whip out their [shrimp emoji] and piss all over it together. When done, they rounded the corner where one of the managers spotted the drinks and tried to take them away; the big one reacted by physically assaulting him, throwing him to the ground.”
Though Precinct didn’t directly tag or identify the two people in the video, the pair was quickly recognized by local L.A. queens and former contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula.
In an email sent to Out, Kilpatrick’s attorney John Duran disputed the alleged assault described in the Instagram post shared by Precinct. The attorney wrote:
“The first individual grabbed my client aggressively asking if he had been at the Precinct bar. My client instinctively pushed back in self-defense. It was reasonable for him to believe that they were about to possibly be gay-bashed by these two individuals.”
Since that statement was issued, Kilpatrick resigned his city council seat with Crescent Valley. Moreover, his dedicated biography page on the CVTC website has also been deleted.
It is unclear if Kilpatrick will face any charges for the alleged act of public urination, alleged assault accusations, and/or for allegedly having an open alcoholic beverage in public.
