And yes it’s tonight.
It's only been a week, but it looks like Frank Ocean is giving his new club series another go according to a flier and invitation obtained by Out. Who is ready to go back down the rabbit hole of PrEP+ one more time?
Announced last week, PrEP+ was the first in a new series of club nights put on by the performer. Details were pretty nonexistent, but a release said that the event was inspired by PrEP and what it could have meant to have the drug in the 1980s. The invitation also came with instructions that banned discrimination, as well as photography. Ocean was roundly criticized for the party's premise and then after the event, some pointed out that there was no integration with PrEP to spread awareness or information. He responded to those critiques on Tumblr.
AsOut previously reported, another issue with the event was that the party didn't feel queer. "There were a lot of straight people there, and a lot of the DJs were straight and white," photographer Myles Loftin told Out. "I just wish that it felt more like a queer New York party."
It seems, from the invitation at least, that Ocean is addressing that criticism as well. The new event's flier boasts names like Leeon, Arca, Papi Juice, and Shyboi; an all queer lineup. Papi Juice notably has built a name for itself as a collective that puts on a roving party for queer people of color, while DJ Leeoon is known for spinning techno beats out of Colombia. It's quite the list.
The flier does not list set times but instead simply contains the names of the collaborators, PrEP+, Blonded Radio The World, and the phrase "Look at us, we're in love." That latter quote was used in the rollout of a surprise episode of Blonded, the Apple radio show that Ocean dropped last week.
Plus, if nothing else, this might be the space that Ocean rolls out at least a new track. At the first event, the artist dropped remixes to two new songs, which he later released on vinyl for pre-order.
*Out has reached out to the events representatives and will update this story should we hear back.
