This Is What It Looked Like to Party in Fire Island in 1999

It's time to party like it's 1999!

Fire Island Pines has always been one of the best places for gay people to let loose and have some fun during the hot summer months — and these throwback photos prove that!

According to the Fire Island Historical Preservation Society, in August of 1999, the Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association (FIPPOA) threw Pines 99, a night-time, beach-side party to benefit various charities and celebrate the end of the season. Folks from all over the gay mecca came together, and with music from DJs Warren Gluck and Monty Q, and a set performed by dance-pop diva Kristine W, it looked like an unforgettable night — and the perfect way to say goodbye to that summer love.
