Aussie artist G Flip put everything on pause -- even her beloved nights out on Melbourne's queer scene -- to start producing her own music.. "It's always rowdy," she says of her favorite party, "Thursgay." "And I wanted to focus. I'm someone that always goes 100% with shit." G Flip, aka 24-year-old Georgia Flipo, has always been as obsessed with polished pop as with scruffed-up rock.

A tattoo on her left arm pays tribute to Michael Jackson, and she previously drummed for EMPRA, a four-piece who toured with Fall Out Boy. "But I was secretly writing music on the side," she says. "I just never showed anyone." She shut herself away for the whole of 2017 to work on her solo project, emerging with more than 50 tracks, including her debut single, "About You," a punchy bop that evokes Lorde if she went on a synth rampage, and the frothy Scandi-pop-esque kiss-off "Killing My Time."
"All my songs are about girls who have either ruined me, or whom I've fallen head over heels in love with," G Flip says. "I'm always gonna be honest." That candor is paying off: She already has a loyal queer fanbase, and this spring "About You" hit number one on Spotify's viral chart. "I cried a lot of happy tears," she says. "Playing on shitty stages and sleeping on floors for years -- it was all leading up to that moment. I was like, 'Holy shit, my life just began.' "
