On a recent trip to Barcelona, queer, L.A.-based artist Ruben Esparza perched himself up high, drink in hand, to see the parade of revelers, sunbathers, and tourists. Private scenarios and mini-dramas unfolded, all captured in timely photos.

Ruben Esparza is an L.A.-based artist and independent curator whose practice includes painting and the creation of analog and digital works engaging elements of Conceptualism, ethnicity and queer culture. His curatorial work focuses on under-represented artists primarily in queer and ethnic communities. He is founder and director of the Queer Biennial and his artwork is in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago.
