I'm totally into politics right now.
Get in gays and girls, we're going to vote!
We are just under a year away from the 2020 presidential election and Rod is here to cure your political apathy and remind you to vote so that we can get rid of the orange man wreaking havoc on our democracy once and for all.
In a video created by 4wardSteps, an educational resource that works to inform traditionally ignored, underserved, and underrepresented communities of the importance of voting in the presidential election, model Francisco "Pepe" San Martin appears as "Rod" who implores us all to vote
"It's getting hard ..." Rod says in the clip. "For our actual democracy, I mean." Yeah. That's what's getting hard.
Rod pulls out a copy of the Mueller Report in the video, which documents the findings and conclusions of Russia's interference in the 2016 election and precedes to huskily walk us through a few Trump scandals. Most notably, he brings up Trump's recent Ukraine scandal and ongoing relationship with Russia. He doesn't have time to get around to Trump's excessive attacks on the LGBTQ+ community like nixing data collection on LGBTQ+ foster youth and attempting to strip protections for LGBTQ+ workers' rights in a slate of Supreme Court cases, but maybe that's for the next PSA.
In case you're not caught up, the Ukraine scandal revolves around Trump's effort to coerce Ukraine into providing damaging information about Joe Biden, in an attempt to meddle with next year's election. Trump allegedly used surrogates such as his personal lawyer Rudy Giulianim as well as Attorney General William Barr, to pressure foreign governments into false narratives about Biden as well as Russian interference with the 2016 election.
"I don't follow politics much but lately there's been some big... events," Rod teases. "What Donald Trump did with Ukraine showed a disturbing pattern on how he gets foreign countries to interfere in our elections."
Following the Ukraine scandal the House of Representatives began a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump. The House of Representatives approved guidelines for the next phase of the inquiry last month.
And while we would all love nothing more than for Donald Trump to be impeached, the likelihood of that happening is unlikely. In order to get rid of Trump and the Republican dominated Senate, in the words of Rod, we simply must vote.
If not for yourself and your own impending doom, at least do it for Rod.
