Bi Senator Kyrsten Sinema 'Trolling' Mike Pence In Wig Goes Viral

One thing I miss about Twitter -- I was suspended -- is "Gay Twitter." This corner of the Wild Wild West of social media where all the best memes, and never-ending takes are. A segment of the World Wide Web that routinely takes random photos and inexplicably circulates them so far and wide that they wind up as news coverage. And that, my dear friends, and why I'm here to talk to you about Senator Kyrsten Sinema in a purple wig and zebra print coat.

On Wednesday, Mark Kelly was sworn in as Arizona's second Democratic senator. For the moment, Sinema was on hand to hold the bible, while Vice-President Mike Pence swore Kelly in. But the look honey .. the looks.

Twitter -- gay Twitter mostly -- took glee in Sinema's purple wig and Zebra coat as well as her apparent glare at Pence over the face mask she wore given the pandemic. Some likely didn't know that the wig was also a result of the pandemic, as she has been wearing them in solidarity with those who can't go to the salon given social-distancing. The coat, we would assume, is also a wink at how the lines between what we wear at home and how we dress up for work given this unprecedented time.

As gay Twitter does, storylines were projected onto the moment. Sinema was trolling Pence given his history of homophobia and the fact that she is one of two sitting out U.S. Senators. The wig became a symbol of her defiance, and her "glare" a weapon. Nevermind that she pretty regularly wears this sort of thing. Or that FiveThirtyEight once found that she agrees with Trump's policies 54.5 percent of the time -- she was notably the last LGBTQ+ lawmaker in Congress to back impeachment.

We love a narrative though!
