Representative Tulsi Gabbard is back at it. When U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced new rules for inclusive, gender-neutral language in the new session, the failed presidential candidate from Hawaii went on Tucker Carlson Tonight where she claimed that doing so would deny the biological existence of women. Her hateful and bigoted statements merely confirmed her TERF status.
"It's the height of hypocrisy for people who claim to be the champions of rights for women to deny the biological existence of women," Gabbard told Carlson in an epic display of ignorance.
The rule change seeks to ensure the House is "inclusive of all Members, Delegates, Resident Commissioners and their families -- including those who are nonbinary" by using gender neutral pronouns and removing references to gender as appropriate. The rules also made the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, which is charged with looking after ineuqliaities relating to race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other characteristics, permanent.
According to Gabbard's reasoning, though, "removing references to mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters from congressional rules and administration" is "mind-blowing because it shows just how out of touch with reality and the struggles of everyday Americans people in Congress are." Sounds like something right out of the TERF handbook.
Bigotry is nothing new for the Hawaiian representative. Last year she partnered with Representative Markwayne Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma, to introduce a bill that would limit nearly all women's collegiate sports programs to those people assigned female at birth rather than by their lived gender. H.R. 8932 entitled the Protect Women's Sports Act would forbid educational institutions that receive federal funding from allowing trans women from participating in any sports program or activity that has been designated for women or girls.
"Title IX was designed to give women and girls an equal chance to succeed, including in sports," Gabbard said in a statement at the time. "Allowing biological males to compete in women's sports diminishes that equality and takes away from the original intent of Title IX.
All of this, while she has previously claimed to be a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights.
