Tim Cook, the CEO of tech giant Apple who has been dubbed "the most powerful gay man in America," has personally donated one million dollars to President-elect Donald J. Trump's inaugural committee, Axios reports.
Sources told the publication that Cook "believes the inauguration is a great American tradition, and is donating to the inauguration in the spirit of unity." It is a personal contribution from Cook, and Apple is not expected to give any money.
Axios goes on to note that "Cook, with a consistent presence in Washington, has made it clear over the years that he believes in participation, not sitting on the sidelines, and engaging with policymakers from both sides of the aisle."
Cook also reportedly had dinner at Mar-a-Lago last month, and a financial disclosure form revealed that he gave the president a $5,999 Mac Pro in 2019 after touring the Austin headquarters. The Advocate reports that Cook has also successfully lobbied the 2016-2020 Trump administration to scale back tariffs on Chinese imports, which would have increased the cost of Apple products.
Back in 2019, Out reported Cook attended a dinner held for far-right Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. The two sat at the same table alongside Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Both Amazon and Meta have also reportedly donated $1 million to President-elect Trump's inaugural fund, as reported in December 2024. Furthermore, The Advocate reports Uber, Open AI, Toyota, Goldman Sachs, Ford, and Bank of America also made significant contributions.
