Celebrities are horrified by several remarks made by President Donald Trump in his inaugural speech — particularly his trans-exclusionary proclamation that "there are only two genders."

Trump, who was officially sworn in Monday as the 47th president of the United States, used his inaugural address to announce that his anti-trans rhetoric, which played a significant role in his 2024 presidential campaign, will be codified as government policy.

"As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female," Trump said in his speech, reposted by the LGBTQ+ media watchdog GLAAD below.

Celebrities are taking to the comments section to express their outrage over Trump's anti-trans address. RuPaul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage wrote, "You will not erase my child you POS." Niecy Nash shared a "nuh-uh" GIF. Cynthia Lee Fontaine replied with, "Trash. But we will continue to ensure we will continue with our rights. We will NOT be silent." Chanel Perrillo commented, "This made me so sick [sad face emoji]." Jake Wilson wrote, "Go to hell."

President Trump is expected to issue more than 200 executive orders on Monday targeting transgender rights, diversity initiatives, and other federal policies, reports The Advocate, Out's sister publication.

One of Trump’s first executive orders will require federal agencies to define sex as strictly either male or female. This directive will eliminate recognition of transgender and nonbinary identities at the federal level, barring individuals from updating gender markers on passports and other federal documents that currently allow for “X” gender markers. The Biden administration had allowed such updates, viewing them as critical for equality for nonbinary people.

Janson Wu, the Trevor Project's senior director of State Advocacy and Government Affairs, warned about these anticipated orders' harmful impact on LGBTQ+ youth in a statement.

"One thing must be made clear: regardless of if, when, or how today’s anticipated anti-transgender executive order – and others like it – may be implemented, targeting the transgender and nonbinary community on day one will cause harm – especially for young people," Wu stated. "No matter a person’s political beliefs, we know, from our research and from what LGBTQ+ young people tell us, that policies like these take a damaging toll on LGBTQ+ young people’s mental health. Supporting young people’s health and well-being transcends politics, and we urge all elected officials and the media to understand the dangers that anti-LGBTQ+ policies and rhetoric pose for LGBTQ+ youth across the country."
