The absurd comments from conservatives accuse the Canadian Prime Minister of being in a relationship with his teenage son.

Homophobes are literally grasping at straws.

On Thursday, August 3, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire, announced that they’re separating. They got married in 2005 and have three children together: Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien.

A few days later, on Sunday, August 6, went to the movies wearing a pink hoodie to watch Barbie. He watched the film with his 15-year-old son, Xavier, who wore a pink t-shirt. They took a picture in front of a poster of the film.

Trudeau then shared that picture on social media with the caption, “We’re team Barbie.”

That’s literally all it took for a swarm of homophobic bigots to come out of the woodwork and jump to the conclusion that this was Trudeau coming out as gay, that the boy standing by him was his boyfriend, that this was the underlying reason for Trudeau divorcing his wife.

“Just days after separating from his wife, Justin Trudeau has come out as gay,” wrote @LeftismForU.

“Is he already out?” asked @mpt_matt.

“This is why your wife left you,” suggested @Slatzism.

There are a few layers attached to these completely absurd and disgusting comments shared under Trudeau’s post.

First, there’s the classic tactic of calling a man “gay” as an insult. It’s not an insult, but Trudeau isn’t gay.

Second, it’s absolutely disgusting for anyone to imply that the politician’s 15-year-old son is his boyfriend after seeing a picture of a father and a son posing in front of a movie poster.

Third, using Trudeau’s recent divorce announcement to justify any of the aforementioned claims is a very desperate move to attack the Canadian PM’s personal life.

Homophobia is alive and well, and even straight people are being subjected to some of its consequences.
