After six years in queer media and one massive career implosion, I was left with a problem: What do you do with your life when all the things you cared about seem trivial and exhausting? I made it through the following depression and soul-searching with help from one very special friend: a redbone-coonhound/Border collie mix named Neko who my partner and I adopted from the Washington Animal Rescue League in 2009.
Neko helped me when I needed her, and I wanted to use media to help rescue animals like her that needed homes. Homotional Rescue--shot during the holidays, but holding a year-round message--is an attempt to reach members of the queer community interested in advocating for loving animals that need homes. In conjunction with the ASPCA's "No Petstore Puppies," we have partnered with leading queer and queer-friendly celebrities to steer the public away from mills and disreputable breeders, and towards animals shelters. WATCH: Our first episode featuring Neon Hitch.
Our second episode features Brooklyn's coolest children's entertainer, Tim Kubart of Tim and the Space Cadets. The singing stunner agreed to rework his inspirational anthem "Superhero" into an ode to rescue animals and the humans who can help them. Check it out, and be sure to visit the ASPCA website for more information on "No Pet Store Puppies."
