On the eve of her HBO special filmed at the Apollo, we look back at our favorite Inside Amy Schumer sketches.
Amy Schumer's rise to comedy stardom is nothing except meteoric. She's nabbed her first Emmy, her movie Trainwreck was an unequivocal smash, and her comedy special Amy Schumer: Live At The Apollo, airs tomorrow on HBO. To celebrate the occasion, we've reflected on some of the stand-out scenes from the past three seasons of the show.
1. Sext Photographer (Season 1, Episode 2)
Ahh, sexting. Sending accidentally, effortlessly, impromptu the best pictures of your dick you've ever taken in your entire life. It's meant to be spontaneous, but anyone who says they haven't played around with angles or at least made it look like their bed had sheets on it is a goddamned lier. A sext photag would just make everything easier and Schumer gets to live out that fantasy.
2. Sex Tips (Season 1, Episode 10)
Anyone who's ever leafed through a Cosmo at the doctor's office and happened upon the sex tips page knows that there is a lot of bad advice out there. Most of the things listed should never be done to the human penis under any circumstances. In fact a few count as cruel and unusual punishment. Schumer takes us inside what the pitch meetings must be like at these magazines and the results are hilarious. Also the incomparable Bridget Everett has an emotional breakdown mid-scene. Pretty much perfection.
3. Bachelorette Party Disaster (Season 2, Episode 9)
If you've had your good time at a gay bar ruined by an obnoxious bachelorette party, well join the club. While not all prenuptial ladies' bashes are problematic, it's not a stretch to say that being around these parties isn't an optimal situation. Screw it, they're undeniably the worst and Amy Schumer takes them to task, dick straw-toppers and all.
4. Court of Public Opinion: The Trial of Bill Cosby (Season 3, Episode 5)
Bill Cosby...Yeah. The once beloved comedy icon has, after numerous rape allegations, become at best a punchline and at worst a topic to ruin a dinner party. But, like so many once beloved celebrities, the public is still ambivalent and slow to condemnation. Amy brings this general inertia to a courtroom setting and exposes the real reasons why some are reticent to callout the fallen icon/semi-professional sweater-wearer.
5. Listen Alert (Season 3, Episode 9)
We've all got boring, rambling, fairly mundane, stories we'd like to tell, but just can't seem to get an audience. Enter Listen Alert. For the low, low price of $100,000 a month, their operators will listen intently as you tell them what Carol did at the office today or how your new gym routine is going. They just won't listen to your dreams, because, as they say, they're not saints.
