Set in an incredibly liberal Texan community, MTV's Faking It has redefined the traditional format for a high school based television show by incorporating many LGBT characters and the concept of sexual fluidity.
The series began with two lifelong best friends, Amy and Karma, posing as a lesbian couple in order to gain popularity at their high school, which values unique identity rather than the typical athlete/pretty girl standard. It then traveled further into the sexual politics of the LGBT community through its diverse cast that includes gay, lesbian, and intersex characters. We also can't forget that Faking It gave us the hot gay coupling of Shane, portrayed by Michael J. Willett, and his amatuer MMA fighter boyfriend, Duke.
Now showrunner Carter Covington, along with stars Rita Volk (Amy) and Katie Stevens (Karma), have announced an open casting call for transgender actors and actresses to play speaking and background roles on the show's upcoming third season.
