The singer told Bret Easton Ellis that he was gay on the author's podcast.
Today, in a long, intimate conversation on Bret Easton Ellis's podcast, Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos discussed a number of topics with the author -- mental illness, the tug of war between ideology and aesthetic, false narratives -- but around the 49-minute mark he also revealed that he's gay and that is one reason he divorced his wife.
He says that Passion Pit's music has been informed by his own personal struggles, and as the the 28-year-old told Ellis:
"It's always been about putting it off in my head -- not consciously. I just wanted so badly to be straight, because I love her so much. I think that was one of the most painful things when we decided to separate."
