Television viewers have seen a plethora of advertisements featuring LGBT people and our families this year, and shoe store chain Famous Footwear is the latest to step into the spotlight. From Campbell's Soup to Kohl's, companies are rolling out the red carpet for the LGBT marketing demographic. The real-life dads featured in Campbell's ad even made People magazine's annual list of sexiest men.
Of course, for every step forward, there is the potential for backlash. The Campbell's ad earned the scorn of the antigay group One Million Moms, which launched a campaign calling for it to be taken off the air and threatening a boycott.
Famous Footwear's commercial features a family sitting down to dinner. One father holds out a box and the other drops his cell phone inside. The son gives up his headphones, but the daughter tries to hold on to her tablet for as long as possible.
In other words, it's a story that plays out regularly for families across America -- gay and straight.
