Carol, The Danish Girl Nominated for Golden Globes
The nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards were announced today.
Two queer-themed films received nominations: Carol received five noms, including for Best Motion Picture, Drama and Todd Haynes for Director; and The Danish Girl received three. Lily Tomlin was nominated for both her role in the movie Grandma and for her Netflix series Grace and Frankie. Both Judith Light and Jeffrey Tambor were recognized for their pivotal roles in Transparent, which was also nominated for Best Comedy. Sam Smith's Bond theme song from Spectre, "Writing's On the Wall," received a nomination. Some surprises in the nominations this year include Lady Gaga's nom for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel, and she's competing in the same category as Queen Latifah for her role in Bessie, as the bisexual blues singer Bessie Smith.
The 2016 Golden Globes will be held on January 10, 2016. Unfortunately, three-time host Ricky Gervais will return to emcee the boozy gala once again.
