The stunning revival of The Color Purpleopens tonight on Broadway, and for those who have already seen a performance or won't make it to New York in time, Oprah (one of the marquee producers of the production) is, naturally, offering an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look that includes interviews with the cast, along with director John Doyle. In the Oprah Goes to Broadway: The Color Purple special, she speaks to the show's stars: Cynthia Erivo (Celie), Danielle Brooks (Sofia, who Oprah played in the Spielberg movie), and Jennifer Hudson (Shug Avery).

Winfrey surprises the cast at a rehearsal and brings a group of graduates from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, currently studying at prestigious universities and colleges around the U.S., to an early performance.
The special also features reflections from Danny Glover, who starred in the 1985 film and a rare conversation with Alice Walker, who authored the internationally acclaimed, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Color Purple. Plus, actresses Lupita Nyong'o, Cicely Tyson, and Phylicia Rashad share their thoughts on the impact The Color Purple.
