Sam Smith says, ‘Fat stings more than ‘faggot.’
Sam Smith has revealed so many intimate details about his life--through his songs, social media presence, and interviews--that it feels like we know just about everything about the pop star.
Though the "Stay With Me Singer" has publicly documented his journey to a slimmer bod on Instagram, until now Smith has never openly divulged how his relationship with food works.
In a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Smith opened up about his struggles with his weight, saying some pretty controversial stuff:
"If someone called me fat, that affects me way more than someone calling me a faggot. I think just because I've accepted that, if someone calls me a faggot, it's like, I am gay and I'm proud to be gay, so there's no issues there. If someone calls you fat, that's something I want to change; that is something I can change, so that affects me more."
And he has changed his weight. As of Friday, he's only 4 pounds away from his goal weight. That's a big difference from the way he's lived for most of his life.
"From a young age, food has controlled me. When I was at school and wasn't having a great time or when music wasn't going very well. I would eat, eat," Sam admitted. "Eating would make me feel better; when I felt lonely, I would eat."
