Dark Lady laughs and dances and has been bringing it to you for 50 years.
After Cher commited vehicular homicide on me yesterday with her Marc Jacobs ad, I got to thinking of the diva's early career as posing for Vogue and Richard Avedon -- because yes, that happened.
In 1967, two years after she and Sonny Bono rose to the top of the charts with "I Got You Babe," Vogue's editor at the time, the inimitable Diana Vreeland, "discovered" the lanky beauty at a party for Jackie Kennedy. You know, that age-old story.
A 21-year-old Cher quickly became one of Avedon's muses, appearing on the cover of Vogue five times between 1972 and 1975.
So it may have been a few years since Cher flexed her modeling muscles -- or changed facial expression -- but the Dark Lady's still got it.
Perhaps Cher's sartorial soul sister Bob Mackie said it best, "There hasn't been a girl like Cher since Dietrich and Garbo. She's a high-fashion star who appeals to people of all ages."
Werd.
