Seth MacFarlane, the jack-of-all-trades creator of Family Guy, was awarded the Louis XIII Genius Award at tonight's Critics' Choice TV Awards, which aired on A&E. While no group of people is safe from the caustic wit of the comedian's pen, MacFarlane has always been an advocate of acceptance and diversity. Therefore, while not out of line with his character to call out the virulently homophobic stars of Duck Dynasty, it was still a lovely surprise.
During an acceptance speech littered with jokes, as would be expected, MacFarlane had this to say:
"Let's not forget, I'm being called a genius on the network that airs Duck Dynasty. They believe hurricanes are caused by gay marriage. I wish I were joking."
