The Aussie emcee scraps yet another performance.
It's been a rough couple of weeks for Iggy Azalea.
First she 86s the whole of her Great Escape tour and now the "Fancy" rapper is dropping out of Pittsburgh Pride. Well, at least she's getting hitched.
Azalea's inclusion in the Pride festivities was controversial from the get-go. Many LGBT and LGBT-friendly organizations, including the Pittsburgh chapter of GLSEN and Pittsburgh's first openly gay city council president, Bruce Kraus, said they'd boycott Pride if the "Black Widow" singer were allowed to headline.
In a statement released on Twitter, Azalea said that she supported the LGBT community and made a near-apology for racist and homophobic tweets she made in the past.
I am truly disappointed that I have to share this news, but I will no longer be performing at Pittsburgh Pride on June 13th. This has been a difficult decision as I truly support the event and LGBTIQA communities, however I feel my participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event."
I am a firm believer in equality. Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character.
I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words. As an adult I would never use them because I understand they play a detrimental role in the fight for issues that I do truly believe in.
I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed and I wish all my fans and friends participating in ride the best of luck."
With no tour and no album on the horizon, Iggy Azalea could disappear from the public eye. Then again, considering how problematic her Twitter game is, we still might be talking about her even if she isn't performing or releasing something new.
