The famous balcony scene of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (Act 2, Scene 2) has been presented countless times. But in the version displayed in Still a Rose, directed by Hazart, we get four actors in an inclusive take, playing the star-crossed lovers in mixed race couplings, with boy-on-boy kissing, and from multiple perspectives. Romeo (Brandon Crowder, Tinuke Oyefule) and Juliet (Troian Bellisario, Will Branske) transform the Bard's celebrated words to give them new life and new (equal) love.
The film opens June 24 at the Frameline39 San Francisco LGBTQ International Film Festival. Watch the trailer below:
