Father's 'round the world can rejoice: Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, producers of the Tony Award-winning broadway musical Kinky Boots, have released a never-before-heard demo by the musical's composer, pop icon Cyndi Lauper.
The track features Lauper singing "Not My Father's Son" (normally performed by the characters of Lola and Charlie in the show's first act), which was recorded in 2009 and was among the first songs to be penned for the award-winning musical.
Harvey Fierstein, the show's writer, said in a press release, "At its heart, Kinky Boots is about father/son relationships and th effects (both good and bad) our parents have on us. It's a subject we can all relate to. Truthfully, do any of us ever outgrow wanting our father's approval?"
"Writing 'Not My Father's Son' was particularly personal for me, since I've witnessed my own son's relationship with his dad over the years," Lauper explained. "Watching their interaction definitely provided a lot of inspiration for this song."
