"Bring Holly Home," a GoFundMe page created last week to help legendary Holly Woodlawn, still needs over $10,000 to reach its go to save the transgender pioneer and muse to Andy Warhol and Lou Reed. Woodlawn is currently waiting to undergo a laparoscopic lung biopsy after lesions were found on her brain and lungs.
The 68-year-old Puerto Rican actress is known for her roles in such queer films as Trash, Women in Revolt, and Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers. An important figure of Warhol's factory scene, her visibility was groundbreaking to the Stonewall era LGBTQ community.
Although her recovery is not likely, the funding goal of $50,000 would bring Holly home to 24-hour nursing care, stating:
"Holly has made it clear that she wants to return home, surrounded by friends and if she must die, she doesn't want to die in a nursing home."
With over $37,000 raised, the money will also go toward her funeral and burial place.
