The son of Japanese immigrants, Takei and his family were put into an internment camp during the Second World War. Now one of the gay community's elder statesmen is brining his story to Broadway, and you can watch it unfold.
Debuting today, Allegiance: Trek to Broadway follows Takei and the musical based on his true life as undergo the precarious process that is putting on a Broadway musical. Described as "Survivor meets The Bachelor meets Shark Tank," the series promises both a behind-the-scenes look at the machinations of Broadway and an intimate portrait of Takei as he brings what is possibly his most personal project to fruition.
The first part of the 10-part, bimonthly series debuts today, in anticipation of Allegiance's official opening night at the Longacre Theatre on November 8, 2015 (previews begin October 6).
