The former child actor plays a self-destructive former child star in this indie comedy
Writer-director-actor Pat Mills may know a thing or two about what it's like making a life after working as an actor growing up -- he was a child actor on the hit Nickelodeon kids show You Can't Do That On Television -- and in his debut comedy, Guidance, the protagonist David Gold (Mills) may happen to be an intense version of himself (or not). In any case, David is a washed up actor and barely functioning alcoholic who fakes his way into being a high school guidance counselor and connects with the kids. As one critic stated, it has bits of Strangers with Candy, Role Models and event a little Ryan Gosling's Half Nelson (since he gets drunk, high, and tells the students how to be the best sluts possible) rolled into a satisfying 80 minutes of light fun.
