As the debates and interviews have been showing thus far, the 2016 presidential election season will be one of soundbites. Almost every GOP hopeful has already stuck their foot in their mouth during the first debate -- so much so that it was reenacted by children and little of the takeaway was lost -- and they continue to do it on the road.
Ted Cruz stopped by the Iowa State Fair to do what Republicans do best: attempt to talk about policy and current issues, and do something mundane that the 99% can relate to while he prattles on, in this case it was grilling meat.
Actress Ellen Page, whose been traveling around the world to bring attention to LGBT discrimination, stood across from the candidate and tried to engage him in conversation about how gay individuals are still being discriminated against in the United States. Cruz predictably tried to turn her point into a complaint about Christians being persecuted for their beliefs, because white Christians founded this country, so they should obviously have the final say. And when the actor brings up the especially heinous treatment of LGBT individuals in places like Jamaica, how does the senator respond? With ISIS, of course. Watch below to see the senator talk himself in circles and make it painfully clear that if he's not allowed to discriminate against people, no one is.
