Darren Criss to Headline the First Outdoor Music Festival for Showtunes

Musical theater fans rejoice! Tickets went on sale this past weekend for Elsie Fest, a one-day outdoor music festival celebrating songs from the stage and screen, to take place on Sunday, Sept. 27 at JBL LIVE at Pier 97 in New York City. And the lineup is pretty stunning.

Performers include Emmy-nominated musician/actor/composer and star of Glee, Darren Criss; Aaron Tveit, star of USA's Graceland, the film Les Miserables; Tony Award winner and Broadway star Lea Salonga; Star of Hamilton on Broadway Leslie Odom Jr.; Tony award-nominated stage star Laura Osnes; Chicago-based musical theater company and YouTube sensation StarKid; and, host of Sirius/XM Satellites Seth's Big Fat Broadway, musician Seth Rudetsky.

As Criss, who was last seen on Broadway this summer in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, explained in a statement released today:

"I was at Coachella and thought 'let's do this for show tunes.' Musical Theater has been going through a wonderful shift in the past few years, from the type of work that's being produced to the way it's being consumed by the public. It's more than showtunes on Broadway -- it's songs from film, TV and YouTube. Since the rules were already changing, I figured, why not shake up people's ideas of where to watch the performers they love. Enter Elsie."

Elsie Fest takes place Sept. 27, 2-9 p.m. at Pier 97 in New York City.
