Great British Bake Off Heartthrob Tamal Ray Reveals He's Gay
In the United Kingdom, Wednesday nights can mean only one thing: The Great British Bake Off. For a few blissful hours, social media comes alive with kitchen-related sexual innuendos and Mary Berry adoration as millions tune in to watch and discuss the amateur baking show. The fandom is intense, and every year there are a few contestants that manage to steal the hearts of the nation. In its current season six, Tamal Ray, with his easy smile and mouth-watering flavor combinations, has been one such person. And now, with the reveal that not only is he gay, but also single, he's liable to fan the flames of same-sex adoration to a white heat.
When asked in an interview with Radio Times about his love life, the 28-year old responded:
"I wouldn't have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend. But I am single at the moment."
While a more sedate reveal than that of season four runner-up Ruby Tandoh, who came out via Twitter, the announcement welcomes Ray into an ever expanding family of LGBT Great British Bake Off personas, including host Sue Perkins and season three winner John Whaite.
The Great British Bake Off season six airs Wednesdays at 8pm in the United Kingdom. For American fans, however, PBS is making its way through the show and is currently on season two.
