Dumbledore Will Be in Fantastic Beasts, J.K. Rowling Confirms

We might witness a young romance between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in upcoming installments of the film.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is our first return back to the Wizarding World since the last Harry Potter installment in June 2011. This time, however, the film not set at a wizarding school in the present day, but in New York City in the 1920s. Fantastic Beasts follows the story of textbook author Newt Scamander, and because of its setting, there likely won't be many familiar characters in the film.

Fans have speculated, however, that a young Albus Dumbledore, who would have been alive at the time, might make an appearance in the future five-film series. In previously-published Harry Potter books, the former headmaster of Hogwarts wrote a foreword for Scamander's most successful textbook, linking the two characters.

Rowling hinted that Dumbledore's character could even have its own storyline. In the Harry Potter books, a romantic relationship was alluded to between Dumbledore and wizarding rival Grindelwald, which Rowling later confirmed. She said the Fantastic Beasts films will "explore more of the relationship between Dumbledore and dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald," according to PinkNews.

Though Rowling and film producer David Heyman have yet to reveal much, they have said that Dumbledore will definitely interact with the new characters and that we have a lot to look forward to for the next five films. We're sure that whatever they have in store, it'll be magical.
