It’s the first of the drag queen’s “Oy to the World” series.
'Tis the season of holiday classics. Although there are plenty of Christmas songs and commercialism to hold us over all season, our Jewish brothers and sisters usually get snubbed this time of year. One can only listen to that dreidel song or Adam Sandler's nonsense so many times before saying "oy vey" and throwing in the towel.
Drag Jewess, Sherry Vine has come to the rescue this year with a new Hanukkah classic. In the parody of Blondie's "Rapture" Vine gives a crash course in the holiday. From the story of the first Hanukkah to the lighting of the menorah to waiting in line at the deli, she serves the ultimate Hebrew education.
It's the first of eight videos as part of Vine's "Oy to the World" celebration on her YouTube channel, gaySVTVworld.
"Josh (Rosensweig of gaySVTVworld) and I have been talking about doing a Hanukkah celebration for years," she said from gaySVTVworld's Manhattan studios. "Christmas has always been strongly represented in drag, but to my knowledge, no other drag queen has ever done a huge Hanukkah event like this. After putting the week's 'Oy To The World' programming together, I see why. It's a lot of work! Christmas is just one day. Hanukkah is eight!"
