“I suppose a sappy song for me is a song that gets me emotional."
Cabaret and The Good Wife star, Alan Cumming will tour the country and serenade audiences with his latest live musical act, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs. The Tony Award-winning performer will debut his album with a concert at Carnegie Hall on Monday, February 8 at 8PM with special guests Darren Criss, Ricki Lake, and the New York City Gay Men's Chorus.
From Miley Cyrus's "The Climb" to "The Ladies Who Lunch" from Company, the album will consist of pop hits, musical theatre songs, and various songs from around the world. Cumming even recorded a mashup of Adele's "Someone Like You," Lady GaGa's "The Edge of Glory," and Katy Perry's "Firework" called "Someone Like The Edge of Firework."
In an interview with PopBytes, Cumming explained why the theme of the album was sappy songs.
"I suppose a sappy song for me is a song that gets me emotional," Cumming said. "There needs to be a story in it or it needs to have something that I can connect with and that can really make me feel. So that was really why I chose these songs."
The tour begins with Cumming's New York launch at Carnegie Hall and ends on June 26 in San Antonio, Texas. The album is set for a release date on Friday, February 5th. Details and tickets for the tour are available at AlanCumming.com.
