Another day brings another remake. This time, it's Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford in Disney's Pete's Dragon. The effects are slightly better than the 1977 original and though the plot sounds pretty similar, this one will doubtfully be a musical.
The trailer for the modern adaptation just dropped this week, and our staff already has a few opinions. Below, we share our gut reactions to the first look at Pete's Dragon.
Watch the trailer below and tell us what you think:
Jesse Steinbach: "Love seeing Bryce Dallas Howard in another movie she could possibly get eaten in."
Les Fabian Brathwaite: "Ugh, another unnecessary remake? Disney better leave Bedknobs and Broomsticks the hell alone or it's going to get real violent."
Glenn Garner: "Replace the dinosaurs in Jurassic World with a dragon and you have a kids movie... Replace Chris Pratt with Robert Redford and you have daddy issues."
R. Kurt Osenlund: "Pete's Dragon -or- That Movie with the Trailer in Which Robert Redford Gets Up-Billed by Some Kid Named Oakes Fegley"
Genelle Levy: "Lazy Tarzan rip-off"
Dan Heching: "The real question is: will the dragon be as dopey looking as the 1977 original?"
