Stumping for Bernie Sanders has really changed Killer Mike, perhaps best known for his work with Outkast. Last week, the Atlanta rapper and activist tweeted an apology to the LGBT community for being a dumb straight guy:
Though rap has gotten noticeably less homophobic over the years, it's still dominated by a male braggadocio and machismo that makes breaking into the game difficult for queer artists.

Killer Mike, however, is not the first rapper to go on the record supporting the LGBT community--Kanye West, Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Lil' Kim, and others have also spoken out.

As for Mike, the gangster rapper has come a long way since 2003's "Rap Is Dead":
Fuck the fag shit, keep it Killer with the rap shit
Hard rock when you rock shit, back to the block freestyle pop lock shit
Or "Gangsta":
Disrespect my space I'll push yo fuckin back in
Spit in your face and hand your faggot ass a napkin
Good for you, Killer Mike. And good for you, rap. We're all gonna make it.
