Talk about fanboy (and fangirl) power. The Twitterverse spoke, and now some pretty big names are listening. Ever since The Force Awakens took over our lives this past Christmas, many a fan has wanted to know: is love a possibility for friends and pilot buddies Poe Dameron and Finn (played by studs Oscar Isaac and John Boyega, respectively)?

It isn't surprising that people want to see gay characters in the Star Wars universe. After all, if this is a reboot, shouldn't it truly update itself to reflect the culture of our times, where people can be as gay as they please (well, in most places)?
While several of the newer, younger Star Wars actors have mused about this possibility, it wasn't until this week that the new Lord Overseer of the franchise, JJ Abrams, officially fueled the fires of the gay rumor mill with his welcome statements on the topic.
And now, Luke Skywalker himself joins the fray. Mark Hamill recently told The Sun:
I just read online that JJ is very much open to that. In the old days you would get fan mail. But now fans are writing and ask all these questions, 'I'm bullied in school... I'm afraid to come out'. They say to me, 'Could Luke be gay?' I'd say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.
Think about it. Roving the galaxy with Harrison Ford at your side. Foiled straight romance with a tomboy girl who turns out to be your sister. Lots of alone time. Sure, he might have a (SPOILER ALERT, but shame on you if you still haven't seen it) long lost daughter, but then again, don't we all, in a sense?
Anyway, let the galactic gay antics begin. Episode VIII cannot come quickly enough.
