The young singer puts his spin on the instant classic.
Adele's "Hello" was one of the most relevant pop culture events at the end of 2015, spawning countless, collaborations, and even spoofs. Rilan, one of the industry's promising up-and-comers, has put his own haunting spin on the ubiquitous ballad.
"'Hello' is a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of record," said Rilan. "It sticks to your ribs, reminding you of every regret you've ever made. I wanted to give my own spin on this modern masterpiece to show its versatility."
Rilan stays true to the spirit of "Hello" in his video, keeping color contrast to a minimum and echoing the words Adele sang over a leaf-strewn heath across his own arid landscape.
"I instantly connected with the record when I heard it for the first time. I felt alone and isolated, so I wanted to share what it would sound like had I had the privilege of writing and recording such an emotional piece of music," said Rilan. "The video is what loneliness looks like to me."
