Former Outcover boy Andrew Rannells is a busy little bee this season, what with hosting the Jeffrey Fashion Cares auction event on Monday, and stopping by Late Night with Seth Meyers to chat about more upcoming projects.
The actor, who got his start in the bonanza Broadway hit Book of Mormon, discussed his brief stint filling in for Jonathan Groff last year in Hamilton, while Groff was in San Francisco filming the series-ending film finale of Looking.
"I went into Hamilton for like five weeks--super quick--but so much fun," Rannells said of his time spent at that other bonanza Broadway hit. "Obviously very exciting to get to be a part of that show for a minute!"
He was even fortunate enough to be performing when President Obama came to see the show a second time.
"You'll get like, 12 seconds to talk to the President, and he was gonna just go down the line," Rannells recalled. "Luckily for me, his daughter Malia had been an intern at Girls last summer. She was so great, and she was on set with us a lot."
Even armed with this talking point, Rannells was still surprised to find out that the prez knew exactly who he was.
"I had a full meltdown," Rannells said. "He watches the show, he knows who I am, and he's seen me naked!"
The actor then joked that this extended exchange was met with chagrin from the other Hamilton-ites. "The whole rest of the cast was looking at me and they were like, 'Why does the temp get more time to talk to the President than the rest of us?!'"
Rannells has been wooing us in one of the better storylines in this season of Girls, as Elijah finds himself in a sexy and chemistry-filled affair with the hunky Corey Stoll (we know you blushed, or at least chortled at, their steamy sex scene). As seen in the clip below, the former Hedwig headliner is also gearing up for another return to Broadway, with this fall's revival of Falsettos.
