The hashtag #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend began trending as fans pushed for more LGBT representation in the Marvel franchise.

The hashtag #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend is trending on Twitter, with fans of the Marvel franchise hero calling for more LGBT inclusion in the blockbuster comic-book films.

As of noon May 24, 111,000 tweets had surfaced using the hashtag, with social media users both supporting and bemoaning the idea of some man-on-man action with the captain.

Fans--particularly slash fiction writers--love entertaining the idea of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) falling for his longtime friend Bucky (Sebastian Stan), the Winter Soldier and a major player in Captain America: Civil War.

But fanfic writers aren't the only ones calling for a little more diversity in the Marvel universe. Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo also said that an LGBT superhero in upcoming films was very likely and that they supported more diverse heroes.

So far, only foul-mouthed Deadpool has dared to feature a pansexual hero from the Marvel universe.

Captain America: Civil War is in theaters now.
