Watch: James Franco and Tori Spelling in Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?
Remember that 1996 Lifetime movie with Tori Spelling, Mother May I Sleep With Danger? I didn't think so. To jog your memory, Spelling plays a young woman who brings her boyfriend (Ivan Sergei) home to meet mom (Lisa Banes). But mom grows suspicious that her daughter's new beau may be a cold-blooded killer.
Fast forward 20 years, and James Franco has found his new passion project. Franco stars in the Lifetime remake which he wrote with Amber Coney. Sergei even makes a guest appearance while Spelling makes her triumphant return as the mother this time.
But how do you reboot a cult classic for a new generation? Make the daughter a lesbian. If that's not enough of a shock for Mama Spelling, add another millennial twist and make the daughter's girlfriend a vampire.
For some reason, this just seems perfectly on brand for Franco. As for Spelling... well, it's paid work.
Mother May I Sleep With Danger? premieres June 18 at 8/7c on Lifetime. Watch the trailer below:
