The video was inspired by legendary starlets who met horrific fates.
Sharon Needles' new video blends old Hollywood glamour with her own brand of drag darkness. The video for the haunting ballad is a heartbreaking story of fame and defeat a la Valley of the Dolls. But in classic Sharon Needles fashion, no gore was spared in the making of this video, with the unfortunate starlet meeting a Black Dahlia style fate.
In a behind-the-scenes clip, the Drag Race season four champion also cited Jayne Mansfield and Sharon Tate as inspirations for this horrifically beautiful video. With Santiago Felipe directing, she was able to create a visual match for the somber tone of her new track.
"The melody and the way we produced it, I wanted it to sound very much like a murdered 16-year-old teenage virgin at the bottom of a pond that would never be found. Kinda sound like the voices of Laura Palmer and similar audio stylings of Lana Del Rey. So when we made the video, I knew I wanted to take that darkness and convey old Hollywood stories that turned up in tragedy."
"Hollywoodn't" and the rest of Sharon Needles' new album, Taxidermy is available on iTunes. Watch the video below:
